About

The school was started in 1987 at St. Matthew’s Montessori School, when it became oversubscribed, a second school, Wimbledon Village Montessori School was opened in 1993. The headmistress was Mrs R Nolan and in 2016 the nursery was taken over by Miss Naseem Patel who worked in close association with Mrs Nolan from 2008.

Wimbledon Village Montessori is multinational co-educational school, taking children from the ages of 2 + to 5 years old. Our children go on to take up places at the local Preparatory Schools and High Schools. It is open from Monday to Friday from 8:50am to 3pm. We have a capacity to cater up to 40 children.  Our main classroom is over 175 square meters of open space and an additional small room for focus group activities. We have an open door policy, which allows students and instructors to interact freely. The nursery has an outside area which is the Emmanuel church garden used for free play and is available during morning and afternoon sessions and we use a large hall for Montessori work cycle and various movement activities.

What is Montessori

Montessori is the method of teaching where children are sought as unique individuals with own tremendous potential that are willing to learn and are capable of much more than adults usually believe.

Montessori offers children the freedom to make own choices and to accomplish their tasks without interruption. The nursery’s favourable environment provides opportunities for children to progress at their own pace, driven by own immense desire for knowledge.

It focuses on 5 main areas of learning: practical life, sensorial, literacy, mathematics and cultural activities. Each of the area contains of specially designed Montessori materials that boost the child’s confidence, self-esteem, independence, concentration, trust, tolerance, respect, empathy, will. These are important skills that support child’s learning and are the core elements in Montessori philosophy.

There are many ‘famous’ people that attended a Montessori school in some stage of their life. While one can argue, that there are many successful people who were not exposed to Montessori education, interesting is that many of those who attended Montessori school praise it as one of the important success factors.

Testimonials

“My son, Daniel, attended the Wimbledon Village Montessori Nursery and loved every minute. I never once worried about leaving him there. The principal, Naseem, Agnieszka and the rest of the team were truly invested in my son’s development, both educational and social. There is a clear focus on learning, rather than just playing, but there is also an environment of kindness and engendering responsibility to others.

The nursery has had such a positive impact on my child and prepared him well for his assessment and eventual entry into the Reception class at our preferred school. If you are looking for a nursery for your child, I very much recommend this one.”

Irene P., Hedge Fund Manager

“Thank you so very much for providing such a happy and nurturing environment for my children – they absolutely loved their two and a half years with you! My son and daughter were excited to go to the Montessori every day, not only because of the warmth of the staff and the excellent care provided, but also because they were always learning and engaging in interesting new activities. The nursery laid the perfect foundations for my children’s school life, which meant that they started Reception as confident children who have a love of learning. I am so grateful to you for everything you did for my children and for my family – we loved being part of your wonderful nursery community.”
